History of the Balinese

The Balinese does not have any links with Indonesia (their Siamese relatives are actually originally from Thailand), the name was created as the breeders thought the cat’s grace and elegance mirrored that of the dancers in the Temples of Bali.

The breed doesn’t have a long history. They were first introduced in the 1940s in America after long-haired Siamese kittens appeared in a litter. While some people may simply view the Balinese as a long-haired variety of the Siamese Cat.The Cat Fanciers’ Federation gave the Balinese official championship status in 1961.

Balinese Care

The Balinese is generally a very active, intelligent, affectionate and particularly social, medium-sized cat. They enjoy playing and are very curious, so it is important that you have lots of toysscratching posts and enrichment ideas ready to keep them entertained and stimulated. Balinese Cats For Sale

They also crave company. They are not a cat that would suit being left alone for long periods at a time, and this could result in them becoming distressed and possibly exhibiting destructive behavior. With proper introductions, they are a breed that can live well alongside children, dogs, and other pets. They are often a popular choice as a family cat.

More About Balinese Cat Breed

Like many cats, they do like to find high vantage points. So make sure that you keep surfaces clear and provide them with suitable “hiding” spots to allow them peace should they desire it.

If you enjoy a tranquil home, the Balinese may not be the cat for you; they are known for being particularly vocal and do like to chat with their owners, often demanding attention.

The breed comes in a variety of different colors. The main body of the coat is usually a creamy white, but they have distinctive color points that are found on the face, ears, full tail and legs. The most common of these are seal, chocolate, blue and lilac, and these are the four that are recognized as acceptable official breed standards. They can also come in red, lynx and tortoiseshell color points.

LIVING WITH

The Balinese is slender and fine boned. Because of this build, care must be taken that she does not become obese. If given enough exercise space, the Balinese is generally able to avoid getting too heavy.

The Balinese is a lively but loving cat. She will sit quietly with her parent, purring and being petted. They are loving companions.

HISTORY

The Siamese (Balinese?) breed has always been popular. In the early 1950s, some Siamese (Balinese?) breeders in the United States discovered that they were seeing kittens puffier than a Siamese should be.

Originally, the thought was to name this breed the “Longhair Siamese” but Siamese breeders objected. Since the naturally graceful motion of this breed made people think of the movements of the Balinese Temple Dancers, the name for the breed became Balinese. Balinese Cats For Sale

WHAT IS A BALINESE

A Balinese, also known as a long-haired Siamese, is a rare but natural mutation of a purebred Siamese.  They possess a medium-length (1-3 inch), silky coat, a fluffy tail, and sapphire-blue eyes.  They have no undercoat and are practically non-shedding!

There are two distinct head shapes in Balinese. The traditional apple-head has a rounder and wider head, characteristic of a delicious apple turned on its side.  Wedge-heads have long, slinky bodies, with triangular heads, and tend to be feisty and   temperamental.  Our Balinese kittens are all the traditional apple-head.

Balinese are considered to be among the most intelligent of all long-haired cat breeds!  They are sociable, playful and inquisitive.  Some can even be trained to use a flushing toilet!
